As an amateur red wine enthusiast, I know the difficulties in making good sense of an exciting choice of Australian reds. Reading MW tasting notes don't exactly help when the recommendation is to drink 5 to 25 years later.

Deep ruby in colour, floral nose, medium bodied, dry on palate with touch of sweet red berries. Velvety tannins. Ready to drink.

2008 MCGUIGAN PERSONAL RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON COONAWARRA
Deep purple in colour, classic full bodied Coonawarra cab with dark berries on nose, lovely blend of sweet fruits on oaky backdrop, delivered on delicate tannins. Good length. Cellar for 5-7 years, decanting is a must.

2010 LANGMEIL HANGIN' SNAKES SHIRAZ BAROSSA SA
Dark purple, sweet berries on nose, tobacco on entry, no apparent fruit flavours, dry on palate.

2010 THORN-CLARKE SANDPIPER SHIRAZ BAROSSA
Deep crimson purple, seemingly closed plummy nose, hint of chocolate on entry, dry on palate. Good length. Bitter aftertaste. 4.5/10 30-6-2012
2011 TEMPUS TWO CABERNET MERLOT LIMESTONE COAST
Ruby red in colour semi-opaque, almost like pinot noir. Fresh lush red berry aromas, rough tannins on palette, lingering acidic aftertaste.

Deep ruby in colour, floral nose, sweet
berries on entry, light to medium body, slides down palate with ease. Easy drinking cool-climate shiraz.

Deep, dark ruby/ purple, red lush plum
and black berries on the nose, med-full body carried by smooth tannins.
Typical Coonawarra Cab Sauv.
Cedary oak in the backdrop. Ready to drink but may improve with 2 - 3

Ruby red, oaky on the nose, sweet on
entry, luscious berries to follow, firm tannins to deliver flavours. Downside
